As an industry, we need to start aiming higher.
Let's face it, the mass resignation the restaurant industry is experiencing right now isn't going to get any better. Why? Because for far too long the culture of your average restaurant has been broken. How do you know if your restaurant culture is broken? Ask yourself this simple question...When is the last time you asked an employee "What do you think?" when faced with a problem? If you can't answer that question, your culture is broken.
First, before you go running off to ask someone "What they think?" you need to evaluate your team and their level of competence and character. This is simple...do you trust your team? How do you know? You trust your team if you don't feel the need to micromanage them. Simple...if you are giving them the answers and telling them what to do you don't trust them to make the sound decisions that solve the problems your restaurant faces every day.
